Recent Poll Shows New Indiana Jones Movie to be "Most Anticipated"

Posted on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 11:04 AM and updated on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 12:21 PM

A recent poll conducted by our online ticketing partner, MovieTickets.com, shows that "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" is at the top of the list when it comes to the most anticipated upcoming movie. The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 22, 2008.

There aren't any real big surprises in the poll results, with the top ten including:

  1. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
  2. The Dark Knight (Batman Begins 2)
  3. National Treasure: Book of Secrets
  4. American Gangster
  5. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
  6. Iron Man
  7. I Am Legend
  8. Get Smart
  9. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
  10. Charlie Wilson's War

What was interesting is that the top movies didn't differ all that much between men and women. "Crystal Skull" was at the top of the list for both genders, with only a difference in the top 5 being between "Iron Man" for men and "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" for women. I have a hard time believing that women as a large group would be into a violent action movie like "American Gangster," but maybe the Denzel Washington effect comes into play...

We have our own running version of this kind of poll on our "Coming Soon" page in Now Showing. When our readers identify which movies they are planning on watching, that movie is added to their list of Favorite Movies and we provide our own Top 5 List of Reader Favorites on the "Coming Soon" page for upcoming movies, and on the "All Movies" page for movies that are currently playing (where we show the Top 10).

Currently, over 800 readers have selected Favorite Movies, and the top upcoming movie is "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," which ranked 3rd on the MovieTickets.com survey. Of movies currently playing, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" is still at the top spot that it has had since it opened in theaters this summer.

The Top 5 Reader Favorites of Movies Coming Soon:

  1. National Treasure: Book of Secrets
  2. The Nightmare Before Christmas in Disney Digital 3D

MovieTickets.com Poll Reveals -- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Tops 'Most Anticipated' List

Over 2000 Active Moviegoers Surveyed Predict Upcoming Blockbusters-The Dark Knight, National Treasure: Book of Secrets and American Gangster Rank High

MovieTickets.com LogoLOS ANGELES, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MovieTickets.com (http://www.movietickets.com), the world's most powerful Internet movie ticketing service, has revealed the results of a poll conducted among 2000 active moviegoers to determine which films scheduled for release over the next 12 months are generating the most interest. According to the highly-qualified pool of moviegoers, films based on existing properties such as the Indiana Jones, Batman and Chronicles of Narnia installments and Iron Man are of greatest interest, with only American Gangster and I Am Legend as the only original films breaking into the top 10. The MovieTickets.com poll results reveal early, valuable insight into which movies scheduled for release over the next year are generating the most interest among active moviegoers.

Poll participants represent a highly qualified pool. Each respondent purchased at least one ticket to a film in August or September 2007, and more than 50% of those surveyed saw six or more films in a theater this past summer.

The poll revealed the following:

  • By a wide margin and across all demographic segments, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull earned the greatest interest
  • Measurable strength was recorded for The Dark Knight, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, and American Gangster
  • A majority of the most anticipated films are based on existing franchises

Respondents of the poll were asked to rank their interest level on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 representing little or no interest and 5 representing significant interest in seeing each major film scheduled to be released in the course of the next 12 months. Based on these results, the top 20 films are listed below:

  1. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
  2. The Dark Knight (Batman Begins 2)
  3. National Treasure: Book of Secrets
  4. American Gangster
  5. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
  6. Iron Man
  7. I Am Legend
  8. Get Smart
  9. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
  10. Charlie Wilson's War
  11. Hancock
  12. Beowulf
  13. His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass

  15. The Incredible Hulk
  16. Speed Racer
  17. Step Brothers
  18. Bee Movie
  19. Mr. Magnorium's Wonder Emporium

  • 18% identified 11 or more specific movies that they saw in a theater this past summer
  • 34% identified between six to 10 specific movies that they saw in a theater this past summer
