The MJR Troy Grand Digital Cinema 16 in Troy, Michigan is scheduled to open to the public on Friday, June 20, 2014. It is located at Maple Road and Livernois Road, which was the site of a KMart store.
The theater was announced in May 2013, and the groundbreaking was held in October. They were planning on an opening date in April or May of this year, so the latter part of June isn't too far off that mark.
MJR's web site and Facebook pages state that the theater will have "16 luxury auditoriums" including one MJR Epic Experience auditorium with a screen measuring 80 feet wide by 44 feet high and Dolby's Atmos sound system installed. All auditoriums will have a closed captioning viewing system they call CaptiView and their Fidelio wireless audio system for those that are visually impaired.
It's still early to have their showtimes for opening day, but we will likely receive them early next week, so keep an eye on their Showtimes page for updates!
The closest movie theaters are the AMC Star John R 15 in Madison Heights, the Birmingham 8 and Palladium 12 in Birmingham, and quite a few more within ten miles. MJR Theatres currently owns/operates nine other locations in Michigan.
