Three weeks ago, Netflix announced that it was going to split itself into two distinct operations, one for streaming that would continue to be called Netflix, and the second for their traditional discs-by-mail program that would be called Qwikster. Reaction by customers, investors, and casual observers was universally negative for the most part.
Netflix's blog, their Facebook page, and even their phone lines were inundated with people very willing to tell them that doing so was a really bad idea.
Finally today, Netflix announced on their blog and in an E-Mail to the same customers, that Qwikster was a bad idea and that they were not going to force their customers to participate in two separate business entities to get the same service they were getting before:
It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs.
This means no change: one website, one account, one password… in other words, no Qwikster.

This move is definitely good news for just about everyone that had a Netflix membership, was thinking of getting a Netflix membership, and anyone that has ever heard of Netflix. I have difficulty thinking of anyone for whom the original plan was a good idea...
So, now that you can be confident that you won't have to jump through hoops, maybe it's time to sign back up or try Netflix for the first time. They give new customers a free trial period to try it out, and even though they took more time than they should have to change the error of their ways, their service is still the best out there in our opinions.
