Editors Note: This information was forwarded to me. Dayton, Ohio is nowhere near Milwaukee, but I thought it might be of interest since Cinerama hasn't been around for quite some time...

Thanks to a remarkably successful letter-writing campaign, the New Neon Movies in Dayton, Ohio will become North America's only Cinerama theater! Over 1400 enthusiastic movie lovers from 24 states, Australia, England, Scotland, and Canada have poured out their dreams to see HOW THE WEST WAS WON and THIS IS CINERAMA in the original 3-projector process on a giant 146-degree deeply-curved screen and in 6 and 7 track magnetic stereo sound! They wrote, faxed, and emailed their messages of support for reviving this amazing panoramic cinema experience, promising to travel however far to come to Dayton and share the wonder and virtual reality of inventor Fred Waller's unparalled feature presentation process... CINERAMA!

The OK was finally given on Friday, August 2nd, and construction of the three projection booths, the huge 25 by 50 foot lenticular screen, the large curtain track, the giant THX-approved speakers, etc. began the following Monday.

Labor Day weekend (August 31) is the projected starting date, once world-renowned Cinerama historian and technician John Harvey has his equipment in place and tested. But we are only guaranteeing limited screenings for a two-month period to test the waters, so to speak. Others have tried to revive Cinerama, but only a museum in England has been able to do it. This was in 1993, but after 3 years their business is slowing down.

SO ORDER YOUR TICKETS NOW!

During September and October, THIS IS CINERAMA will play Saturdays only at 1:00 PM and HOW THE WEST WAS WON will play Sundays only at 1:00 PM. This will allow our hundreds of out-of-state visitors a chance to see both on the same weekend. The showings have also been scheduled for weekend matinees only to allow Mr. Harvey time to clean, inspect, and rewind each rare print before the next screening. The theater's regularly scheduled features will continue to play during the week and on weekend evenings using the center half or two-thirds of the giant wraparound Cinerama screen. REMEMBER: This will be a limited run through October before the theater must close and twin its single screen auditorium.

TICKETS GO ON SALE Monday, August 12. Advance tickets are $10 each and guarantee reserved center section ("sweet spot") seats, limited to the first 120 requests per show. They can be purchased at the New Neon Movies box office during regular hours or by mailing in a check or money order for the amount of purchase with a SASE (order form below). Sorry, we are not able to take charge cards. Do not mail cash, but we will be happy to accept it at the box office. General admission (non-sweet-spot) tickets will be available the day of the show: $6 for seniors and children and $8 for adults.

THE DOORS WILL FIRST OPEN at 11:30 AM for brunching with coffee, doughnuts, fruit, muffins, meeting and mingling. Then at noon the doors will be closed for an introductory preview lecture with slides, names, dates, drawings, descriptions, facts, legends, and folklore. The doors will open at 12:30 PM for the general public to select from the remaining seats. Each film will have a 20-minute intermission, and at the conclusion of the feature, we will take a minute to thank John Harvey for his efforts, then take a five-minute stretch break and gather again in the auditorium for a brief question and answer period with Mr. Harvey himself.

WE'RE SURE EXCITED and we hope you are too! We look forward to meeting you, having you sign our guest book, and swapping Cinerama stories! Listed below is the schedule of showings. Check your personal calendar and select your first and second preferences, circling them and indicating "first choice" and "second choice" and the number of tickets you need for each date. Please include your phone number so that we may call you and discuss other options in the event that your first two choices are sold out.
