Oscars posterThe nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards were announced this morning, January 25, 2011 by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak and 2009 Oscar® winner Mo'Nique. The live television broadcast announced nominations in 10 of the 24 categories.

Academy members from each of the branches vote to determine the nominees in their respective categories – actors nominate actors, film editors nominate film editors, etc. In the Animated Feature Film and Foreign Language Film categories, nominations are selected by vote of multi-branch screening committees.

All voting members are eligible to select the Best Picture nominees. This is the second year to have 10 nominees instead of the five that were nominated previous to 2009.

The Academy Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California. The event will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 5pm PT/8pm ET. The ceremony will be hosted this year by Anne Hathaway and James Franco.

Many of the nominated movies are still in theaters, or will be making a return visit as a result of being nominated, so it's not too late to see them for yourself! Click on the movie title to view the information and showtimes (if available) for each movie, or you can check out our Academy Award® Winners and Nominees page in Now Showing.

The nominees are listed below by the category of their nomination. If you would like to see the nominations grouped by movie, see 2011 Academy Award Nominations - By Movie.

If Toy Story 3 wins Best Picture, wouldn't it also have to win Best Animated Feature by default? After all, it can't be the Best Picture without also being the Best Animated Picture, right?

My Picks:
Best Actor: Javier Bardem in Biutiful
Best Supporting Actor: Geoffrey Rush in The King's Speech
Best Actress: Natalie Portman in Black Swan
Best Supporting Actress: Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit
Best Animated Film: Toy Story 3
Best Picture: True Grit
Best Cinematography: Roger Deakins - True Grit
Best Adapted Screenplay: The Social Network - Screenplay by Aaron Sorkin
Best Visual Effects: Inception
Best Original Screenplay: The King's Speech - Screenplay by David Seidler
