Movie PosterFans of seeing mainstream movies in the IMAX format automatically look for the IMAX variation of their favorite movies, but if you're also a fan of the X-Men franchise and you're in the United States, be aware that you'll have to book your travel plans in addition to buying your tickets.

According to a recent press release from Twentieth Century Fox, the studio behind the movie, X-Men: Apocalypse An IMAX 3D Experience will open internationally on May 18, 2016, but there are no U.S. locations planned.

X-Men: Apocalypse — which reunites Singer with the all-star cast of the global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, including James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, along with franchise newcomers Oscar Isaac and Olivia Munn — will be released in more than 50 overseas IMAX markets, including such major territories as Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Taiwan, South Korea and the U.K.

Even though most Americans won't be able to see the movie in IMAX theaters, there are plenty of premium extra-sized screens available around the country that rival and often exceed the sizes of many IMAX screens. Plus, the sound likely will be better if you choose a theater that has it playing in Dolby Atmos, so keep an eye on the showtimes page for the 2D and 3D versions of the movie for where and when it's playing near you.
