In June, Onkyo announced that it would offer new home theater products with Dolby Atmos, and its mid-range TX-NR636, TX-NR737, and TX-NR838 network A/V receivers could be upgraded to enable Dolby Atmos® with a firmware upgrade due in September. Onkyo released that firmware yesterday and owners may download the update via the receiver's network connection or with a USB drive.
We are excited to provide this free update to owners of our 2014 network receivers beginning with TX-NR636," says Onkyo Corporation General Manager, Kevin Miyagi. "Our Dolby Atmos enabled receivers allow Onkyo customers to enjoy not only new content that will be released in Dolby Atmos but will also provide an enhanced experience of their current Blu-ray libraries through Dolby Surround."
To download the firmware for your Onkyo product, please see the Support > Firmware section of Onkyo's web site.
Onkyo's higher-end receivers, the $1699 TX-NR1030 and $2399 TX-NR3030, as well as their $2499 PR-SC5530 Network A/V Controller, will ship in mid-October with support for Dolby Atmos already enabled. The $899 HT-S7700 Network Home Theater System (a home theater in a box) should be shipping very soon (it's able to be ordered on their web site).
