Christopher Nolan, the director of The Dark Knight Rises (the upcoming finale of the Dark Knight series of Batman movies), broke new ground back in 2008 when he used IMAX film cameras to shoot some of the scenes in The Dark Knight. Up until that point, few mainstream big-title movies used IMAX cameras because they're a bit on the big and unwieldy side. However, the results he achieved were well worth whatever effort he went through, and he must have been happy with it, because he shot even more with them for The Dark Knight Rises!

That means that the absolute best way to see the movie is to see it on IMAX film in an IMAX theater. However, the problem is that IMAX has been systematically removing their film projectors from IMAX theaters and replacing them with what are affectionately called "IMAX Digital" projectors, which are basically souped-up Digital Cinema Projection systems found in many movie theaters that have converted to using digital projectors instead of 35mm film projectors. (see a comparison of the size of 35mm film and IMAX film)

Nolan is pretty concerned about people being able to find those theaters that are projecting in IMAX film, so the studio has put up a web site to identify them. Click the Read link below to see the full list!

We're going to tag the theaters in that list and try to keep it updated, but we can't guarantee that we're going to be able to track every single change.

That means that the best thing you can do is keep an eye on that web site, and when you decide where you want to see it and it's going to be out of your way to make a special trip, contact the theater directly to confirm that it will be playing on IMAX film.

Our anticipation level is through the roof for this movie, and we've already scoped out the two most likely theaters we're going to for this show. Good luck and see you there!
