Amazon.com Offering Buy-One-Get-One-Free on HD DVDs and 50% Off Blu-ray Discs

Posted on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 6:39 PM and updated on Thursday, December 27, 2007 11:54 AM

Echoing past promotions for both HD DVDs and Blu-ray discs, Amazon.com is once again offering some pretty good pricing on many high definition movies!

They are currently offering a list of 39 movies in their "buy one get one free" HD DVD promotion, with no indication of when the promotion will end. If it's like their past promotions, however, the list of movies will change and it could end at any time. If you're interested in any of the movies being offered, don't wait around, as you may not have a second chance!

You can see the entire list of movies here, but some highlights include:

  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (and the other Harry Potter movies, except for the the latest one)
  • Knocked Up
  • Spartacus
  • The Mummy and The Mummy Returns

They also are offering up to a 50% discount on a list of 51 movies on the Blu-ray format, with the same indefinite time period as the HD DVD promotion. The list of titles is pretty good, and you can view the full list here. Some highlights include:

  • Cars
  • Ratatouille
  • Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End (and the other Pirates movies)
  • Lost - The Complete Third Season
  • High School Musical 2
Update: I revised the paragraph above to clarify that the discount on Blu-ray discs is up to 50%, not 50% across the board. That takes the edge off the deal, but still, getting movies on HD for under $20 is still a pretty good deal. I just bought the first four Harry Potter movies for less than $9 each after my 10% discount was applied for having bought an HD DVD player in 2006!
