A great story with very likable characters. Exactly what a romantic comedy should be, and it delivers in every way necessary.

"The American President" is a smart romantic comedy about a fictionial president, played by Michael Douglas, who finds love in the mist of political turmoil. The film is directed by Rob Reiner, it's his best work as director. The film tells the tale about President Andrew Shephred, played wonderfully by Michael Douglas, who is widowed by the death of his wife. His daughter Lucy plays the sax in her room. One day, he falls for Sydney Ellen Wade (I love that name), played by Annette Bening. A outspoken activists who the president admired. The villian of the film is the leader of the opposition party played by Richard Dreyfuss, who will do anything to be president, even attack the president's girlfriend. I for one would rather see "The American President" as more of a romantic film than a political movie. sure, there are lots ot do as president, especially in one scene when the president had to cancel a date because of tensions in the Middle East. Everything works in this movie. Even the music score by Marc Shaiman is the best score that I've heard in years. "The American President" is a special movie that has many wonderful moments.
