Maleficent" is a good but very dark movie that retells the saga of "Sleeping Beauty," which became a
Disney cartoon in 1959. Angelina Jolie can play the title role very well and I admire the special effects, which it is the best thing that came out of the movie. But what I like the most about the movie is Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora. Fanning can play a princess very well. She can play a princess very well and I love her performance very well.

I really liked this movie. The special effects are outstanding. It is hard to tell what is real and what is animated. Although it is a dark movie, when you look at it, most children's stories are a little on the dark side. Beautiful costuming and great acting.

I did not find this movie, entertaining, the storyline tryed to play down the evil in the main charature, while creating an evil king.

This movie is JUST wrong!

I love fairy tales so this is perfect for a dreamer like me.

I re-watched this movie recently, and it holds up surprisingly well in comparison to the later live-action remakes of the Disney animated movies.

Rather than a slavish retelling of the familiar tale of Sleeping Beauty, this movie goes in the direction of putting Maleficent as the main character and providing her perspective on the story. This was a refreshing change, but one that Disney abandoned when it came to doing Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast, so it must not have had the end result they wished. (Maybe telling the tale of Beauty and the Beast from Gaston's perspective wouldn't have gone over well, but I would watch that movie...)

Angelina Jolie makes a perfect Maleficent, and Sharlto Copley fills the role of a revised King Stefan character quite well. The primary weak point is Elle Fanning as Aurora. She plays the character with wide-eyed innocence that certainly contrasts with the later portrayals of Cinderella and Belle that were much more confident and inspiring.

If you have a child, especially a daughter, that is outgrowing the animated Disney classics (or just growing tired of them after seeing them hundreds of times), the trio of live-action "princess" movies are worth watching, and Maleficent is a good place to start.
