Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger give strong performance sin the classic 1967 murder mystery. Poitier played a cop from the north who was passing though when he was called to solve a murder. Steiger (two years after he's in "Dr. Zhivago," the only American in the film) is a redneck sheriff who is having an uneasy relationship with Poitier but manage to solve the killing. Norman Jewison did a terrific job as director. the film takes a eye-opening look at racial relations in the south during the 1960's. "In the heat of the Night" is one very memorable movie.
